Viewing Plate Contents

Prerequisites:

Viewing plate contents under Visible light:

  1. Double-click the MUVIS software icon to run the software.

  2. Place your plate on the plate holder, and turn the Resolution knob to the highest setting (1.2 MP). Turn the Gain and Exposure knobs to the middle settings as a starting point. Center a drop underneath the objective.

  3. In the software, click the AutoFocus button to bring the drop into the best focus. If desired, you may manually adjust the focus either by using the arrows above and below the AutoFocus button, or by using the Focus joystick on the right of the MUVIS. The working distance from the lens to the point in focus is 33 mm.

  4. Inspect the drops on the plate until you find a crystal that you want to image under UV light.

WARNING: Do not put your hands or any reflective objects under the objective.

Viewing plate contents under UV light:

  1. In the software, click the Capture with UV button , or press and hold the yellow UV button on the left side of the MUVIS.

  2. If necessary, adjust the gain and exposure settings as previously described.

  3. In the software, select the Use Auto Leveling check box to automatically level the image to its best brightness and contrast, or adjust leveling manually with the leveling histogram.

  4. If you want to save the UV image, click the Save button under the UV image, or press the physical Capture button on the MUVIS. You may also save the visible image by clicking the same button under the visible image.

  5. If you are holding down the yellow UV button to keep the UV light on, release it. If you clicked the Capture with UV button to turn on the UV light, you can either click the button again to turn off the UV light, or let it turn itself off when it reaches the end of the timer.

Note: You can open any saved images for further inspection. All images will be saved in the default directory, which can be modified from the Options menu. Pressing the physical Capture button on the MUVIS will save the visible and/or UV image, depending on the image options set in the Options menu.
